Creative tailoring at H&M this autumn

This season the design team at H&M have focused on tailoring, looking back to traditional styles with refined cuts, details and finish, but also thinking ahead with innovative shapes and proportions. The evolution of materials with new blends, surfaces and coatings is an important source of inspiration, as well as the contrasting soft and vibrant colour palette. The result is an inspiring collection with endless possibilities for personal expression and style.

“Tailoring is back on the fashion scene. Classic staples are the obvious choice, but updated and re-modelled”, says H&M’s Head of Design Ann-Sofie Johansson.

INSPIRATION

New tailoring

Tailoring is dramatic and elaborate with new shapes and contrasting proportions for women. For men it’s all about sleek tailoring with a rock’ n roll attitude. Styling makes the difference, adding bold accessories to staple pieces.

Ethnic opulence

Decorative detailing and uniform styles give a nod to Russia and Cossack styles.

Autumn’s ethnic inspiration is decorative and glamorous folklore style, with focus on shiny silk, rich velvet and gold, or stark and uniform-like.

Woodland

Inspiration comes from fairytales and forests. The look is rustic and takes references from fisherman and hunter styles. Trees, moss and all things green and growing inspire colours, form and texture.

Power

Sharp and sculptural with square shoulders and narrow waist, this trend for body conscious power people is all about black. Clean cut tailoring team up with super stretch 80’s nostalgic pieces and statement accessories.

Silhouettes

Long and narrow, curvaceous or wide.

Colours

Neutrals in black, grey, brown, blue, white and khaki. Icy or pale pastels, neons, bright hot colours, jewel colours and gold.

Patterns and prints

Stripes and prints, flowers, polka dots, wallpaper prints, cartoon motifs, art-inspired prints, jacquard, embroidery, appliqué details and patchwork patterns.
