Regarding the recent media reports about angora
H&M does not accept plucking. We only accept products made of angora rabbit hair from farms with good animal husbandry.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has released a video from an investigation of angora farms in China. We strongly oppose to the treatment of the animals shown in the video.
H&M considers it important that animals are not treated badly. We only accept products made of angora rabbit hair from farms with good animal husbandry. Plucking is not acceptable and hair collecting must be done without harsh treatment.
H&M audits sub-suppliers, such as farms each season. The audits are unannounced. Furthermore, we regularly train and educate all of our suppliers on our strict requirements, and we monitor the angora farms to ensure that our requirements are being followed.
The farms must follow our specific requirements based on UK’s Farm Animal Welfare Council’s definitions that cover the area of health, nutrition and living standard. The rabbits living environment must be appropriate and include shelter as well as a comfortable resting area. Sufficient space should be given to the rabbits so that they can move around, eat and drink without any difficulty. This is stated in our product policy which we require that all our suppliers and sub-suppliers must follow.
