Classic, personal style works best at H&M this autumn

His style is based on classic favourites that can be mixed and matched to give a variety of looks. At the moment it feels right to adopt a minimalist or relaxed approach to fashion design, and Paolo Maldini’s style is a good example of this,’ says H&M’s Head of Design Margareta van den Bosch.
INSPIRATION: ‘British gentleman’s classics’
PIECES: Suits and blazers in chalk stripes, tweed and grey flannel. Coats include lumber jackets, pea coats and overcoats. Cardigans are a must, as are polo necks and V-neck sweaters in merino wool or cashmere. Striped, checked and plain shirts are in Oxford cotton or cotton poplin, while ties are plain or with club stripes. T-shirts and coarse-knit sweaters add the finishing touches for a relaxed look.
COLOURS: Suits, jackets and coats in camel, black, navy blue and grey flannel, plus tweed in brown or grey. Shirts are white, light blue, black and brown, while sweaters are in black, grey, off-white, light blue and camel shades.
MATERIAL: Flannel, tweed, wool and cashmere. Oxford cotton and cotton poplin.
PATTERNS: Prince of Wales check or herringbone are the patterns of choice, along with stripes and checks.
ACCESSORIES: Scarves, ties and leather belts.
