H&M among the most transparent fashion companies

H&M scores a top rating in the Fashion Transparency Index showing how retailers – from luxury brands to high-street brands – deal with transparent reporting on their sustainability work.

The index, created by Ethical Consumer and Fashion Revolution, is based on how much brands know about their supply chains, what kind of policies they have in place and how much information they share with the public about their practices and products.

Retailers are split into four different groups; low rating, low-middle rating, high-middle rating and top rating. H&M scores a top rating. The index confirms H&M is taking positive steps within all areas, but notes there is room for further improvement when it comes to stakeholder engagement, and tracing of products down to sources of raw material and as well as communication with the public.

“Transparency and a long-term approach is a starting-point for all positive change. We will continue our work to make informed sustainable choices even easier”, says Anna Gedda, Head of Sustainability.
