Classic feminine, British style

This autumn H&M has gone British. With classic tweed and lambswool, velvet, silk and lace. Use them in contrasting combinations – it’s personal styling that adds the interest. This season’s fashion is as individual as it is versatile, created to inspire you to update your own personal style.

Tailoring is classic and feminine in tweed, tartan or chalkstripes. Knitwear ranges from fine-knitted lambswool to faux cashmere and furry mohair. Denim – both skirts and jeans – is also a basic element in this autumn’s collection.

The silhouette is narrow but casual, never tight-fitting. Waists, bottoms and shoulders are accentuated. Colourwise the focus is on brown, black and beige combined with bright shades of red, turquoise and emerald green as well as soft shades of lavender, pink and pistachio. Checks dominate the patterns – look for Argyle, herringbone and Prince of Wales check.

Tailored pieces are often cropped or shrunken with details such as seams, stitching, piping and patterns. Granddad trousers are a key garment, along with knee-length skirts and suit jackets. Cardigans and jumpers complete the look. Vintage-inspired garments in romantic Bloomsbury style such as dresses, blouses or skirts with frills and drapes are strong for this season. Combine them with fun fur and tweed or with denim and knitwear for a more casual look.

Accessorise with a fun fur cap or scarf, a brooch, belt, gloves, bag and patterned tights or short socks with high heels. Alternatively, go for strings of pearls, chains and gemstones.
