Contrast is the key this Autumn at H&M
This Autumn the H&M design team have been inspired by British classics and the collection has just as much humour, eccentricity and tradition.
The collection is also all about contrast – retro combined with futuristic, tailoring with sheers, masculine mixed with feminine, and romantic with rock.
Colours, patterns and fabrics are also mismatched. Dusky shades are teamed with brights, floral and paisley prints with tweed and pinstripes, and sheer chiffons with chunky knits. Accessories play an important role in accentuating individual too, there are knitted accessories, brooches, braces and beads. And, as always H&M designers are aiming to inspire rather than dictate new trends.
Silhouettes:
Volume is combined with structured lines – a chiffon dress or blouse under a suit or tweed coat. The coat, a key piece for Autumn, is either princess or classic and jackets are suit style or bomber.
The latest trouser style is wide, really wide. Skirts are knee-length and either flippy or narrow.
Knitwear includes fine-knit classics, some with delicate feminine designs and shirts are masculine cut or feminine blouses in chiffon and lace.
Menswear has a narrow silhouette, jackets are single breasted, trousers are classically tailored and coats are simple – overcoats or duffles. Knitwear includes classic V and polo neck sweaters – think the English Gent. Shirts have a slightly slimmer silhouette but are traditional in style.
Colours:
Brown in every shade along with black, grey, navy, off-white and camel. Typical Autumnal shades are part of the colour palette too – burgundy, mustard, bottle green, purple and plum. While fuchsia, lavender, yellow and light green appear as accent colours.
There’s a lot of patterns with florals in both Menswear and Womenswear, along with paisley, argyle, checks and stripes.
Fabrics:
Wool blends in tweed – from herringbone to Prince of Wales check. Corduroy, moleskin, velvet, denim and cotton canvases. Wools including – lambswool, mohair and cashmere soft. Fake fur trims and collars.
