H&M Fashion Media Update – Fall 2012
Global singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey is the face and voice of H&M this fall
Lana Del Rey, one of the biggest names in music, will be the face and voice of H&M this fall. Lana will star in a print campaign shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, as well as a full-length film of Lana singing a cover of “Blue Velvet”, shot by director Johan Renck. Lana became an instant worldwide star earlier this year with her single "Video Games” taken from the multimillion selling album "Born to Die", and is known globally for her distinctive personal style. For the print campaign, Lana wears the best of H&M’s fashion for Fall, from a pink angora blend sweater to printed leggings, a tweed biker jacket and a tweed figure-hugging faux leather trimmed dress. The film is a fully-plotted music video starring Lana as she sings “Blue Velvet”, which will be available to see in its entirety at hm.com from September 20, with edited versions used as a TV campaign. Lana will also star in a second print campaign later in the season, featuring the best of winter fashion. These images will appear in October, both in print and also in-store.
Actor Joel Kinnaman models H&M’s men’s fashion this fall
In addition to playing the lead in the remake of “RoboCop,” actor Joel Kinnaman will also be showing off H&M’s menswear this fall. Joel, who made his international breakthrough in his role in the US remake of “The Killing,” will appear in a fall campaign filmed by famed video director Jonas Åkerlund. In the campaign, Joel wears a series of key pieces from H&M’s fall collection, including a green varsity jacket layered over a navy crewneck and denim shirt. The collection also features cardigans, corduroy pants, an updated version of the classic slim overcoat in navy, and a gray single-breasted suit. The commercial will be available for viewing in its entirety on hm.com beginning October 5, with edited versions used as a TV campaign.
“H&M makes it easy for a guy to look great every single day and create a personal style. Their men’s collection always gives me a choice of how I want to dress, whether it be sharp in a suit and polo-neck, or more relaxed in jeans and a tweed jacket. That’s why I’m so happy to be the face of H&M this season,” says Joel Kinnaman.

Ann-Sofie Johansson and Andreas Löwenstam choose their top five stylish fall coats
WOMEN
There’s elegance and playfulness in coats that make a statement for women this fall at H&M. Head of Design Ann-Sofie Johansson reveals her top five for the coming months:
1. THE COLLARLESS COAT: “I love how the minimalism of this collarless design is given an extra dimension by the texture of the fabric. It’s a completely new, contemporary piece that is incredibly versatile.”
2. THE NEW COCOON: “This coat, made of panels that give the effect of animal stripes, envelops the body. The result is so effective that it doesn’t need any other detailing.”
3. THE STYLISH LONG COAT: “There’s so much drama in this coat, especially from the lines made from its wide lapel before the coat drapes down to touch the floor. It will make a strong statement.”
4. THE UPDATED MEN’S COAT: “It’s amazing how a few simple changes, like shorter sleeves and drop shoulders, can transform an oversized masculine coat into a feminine piece.”
5. THE BELTED BIKER: “Who knew a biker jacket could be so glamorous? The belted waist and gold zipper detailing turn something tough into a piece that’s totally chic.
MEN
This season’s statement coats for men take classic shapes and make them new all over again. Andreas Löwenstam, Head of Design for H&M Man, talks through his top five:
1. THE BRAND NEW CITY COAT: “The sharp city coat is a ‘must’ this fall. H&M has given it an update in gray with covered buttons and slim lapels.”
2. DOUBLE-BREASTED: “The refined double-breasted peak-lapel coat gets a fresh twist at H&M when rendered in a deep wine shade.”
3. THE VIBRANTLY COLORED COAT: “Sometimes a bright color is all the detail that’s needed, especially when it’s in a warm shade of burnt orange.”
4. THE CROPPED CAMEL COAT: “A menswear classic is brought up-to-date with a slightly shorter length, making it a piece that’s perfect for smart layering.”
5. THE WAXED JACKET: “A countryside staple that’s now a city favorite, thanks to its versatility. This version at H&M looks just as good worn over a suit, as it does with jeans and a sweater on the weekend.”
