& Other Stories creates sustainable look made of oil-seed hemp and grape leather
For this year’s Global Change Award ceremony, & Other Stories presents their take on read carpet worthy pieces made of new sustainable materials. Ban-dana Tewari, member of the Global Change Award Expert Panel is attending the ceremony dressed in a one-of-a-kind full look created by & Other Stories, featuring materials by previous winners.
& Other Stories welcomed the opportunity to explore two new sustainable materials and created a full look for Bandana Tewari for this year’s Global Change Award ceremony in Stockholm. Bandana is not only a member of the Global Change Award Expert Panel 2018 and 2019, she is also a fashion journalist and sustainability activist who writes for Business of Fashion and was formerly editor-at-large at Vogue India.
Her love for fashion and the future of sustainable style made her a great source of inspiration for & Other Stories when designing this bespoke look.
“I find Scandinavian minimalism, a calm respite in my sartorial jour-ney. I desperately need calm moments in fashion, and this one does just that for me.”
“I am so thrilled to wear the chic off-shoulder black dress made with sustainable fabrics by & Other Stories. Coming from India and Nepal, lands of outlandish colour and bold embellishments, I find Scandinavian minimalism, a calm respite in my sartorial journey. I desperately need calm moments in fashion, and this one does just that for me!” says Bandana Tewari.
& Other Stories created her dress using a sustainable fabric cre-ated of 60% Agraloop (oil-seed hemp) BioFibre™ and 40% silk.
Agraloop is the Global Change Award winner 2018 that takes the harvest remains of crops such as oil-seed flax, hemp, sugarcane, bananas and pineapples and turns it into useful bio-fiber through a low-cost, closed loop technology. The bio-fiber can then be turned into textile fabric. By turning the waste into a valuable resource, this innovation also has a social aspect, generating additional income to the farmers.
& Other Stories also worked with VEGEA, the winner of 2017, to complete Bandana’s look with a pair strappy sandalettes and a classic clutch in 100% grape leather. VEGEA realized that fibres and oils from winemaking leftovers is ideal for making 100% vege-tal leather, offering a greener alternative of making dresses, handbags and shoes.
The Global Change Award ceremony took place April 3 in Stockholm.
