This spring, fashion is set to raise the temperature for the summer. Inspired by the happy-go-lucky feel of the 50s, the H&M design team has created feminine clothing in bright fruity colours, soft pastels and classic black and white.
‘Wearing feminine clothes feels extra fun during the summer months,’ says H&M head of design Margareta van den Bosch. Team short or knee-length skirts with a feminine shirt or top, or wear Capri pants with a fitted polo top. Complete the look with a fine knit twin set or a ¾ sleeve v-neck sweater. The look is mainly made up of simple summer classics, it’s the silhouette, colours and patterns that bring it bang up to date for the season.
The silhouette is narrow but not clingy. Capri trousers range from sporty to feminine chic. Other trousers are narrow and ankle-length. Skirt lengths and styles are varied, from mini, to knee-length pencil, to flirty and A-line. Jackets work both as separates and within suits, but often a jumper or little cardigan is a great substitute for tailoring. Dresses are feminine in fresh shades and summery fabrics.
Black and white with accents in beige tones work well as a base for the bright fruit colours. Red, pink, green and yellow are the strongest shades along with a series of cool pastels. Patterns are updated 50s classics, like spots, checks and stripes.
Accessories include scarves for around the neck or hair, narrow belts and chains, and beaded earrings and necklaces.
